Rogers has a little bit of everything that makes Northwest Arkansas special, from scenic lake trails and bike rides to historic downtown streets, local restaurants, and fun new places for kids to explore. Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or looking for a staycation close to home, Rogers is an easy place to fill a few days with family-friendly adventures. Here’s how we’d spend 72 hours exploring Rogers with kids. If you’re a visual learner like me, head to my instagram @nwarkansasmamas and view my “Rogers” highlight, as many of these items are highlighted there!
Day 1: Downtown Rogers, Pizza + Playtime
Start your first day in downtown Rogers, where you can stroll the historic streets, pop into local shops, and grab coffee or breakfast at a local favorite. Lucy’s Diner is a classic diner for a hearty breakfast, while Onyx Coffee’s Rogers HQ is a great stop for pastries and coffee.
After breakfast, head to Railyard Park, a downtown favorite with a playground, seasonal splash area, and space for kids to climb, explore, and burn off some energy. The park is also home to the Railyard Bike Park, which is located within walking distance from downtown, where you can watch riders tackle the pump tracks and bike features.
When lunchtime rolls around, walk over to a downtown staple: The Rail! They serve specialty pizzas, wings, and plenty of options for a casual family meal. It’s an easy stop after a morning of exploring, and the laid-back atmosphere makes it a good choice with kids. Make sure to get there early since it’s a small restaurant and it fills up quickly. Sometimes we order the giant single slice and they split it into 3 pieces for my kids 🙂
Spend the afternoon wandering downtown or head back for some downtime before dinner. We love walking into Rogers Historical Museum, and it has a little play area for younger children. If your family is up for another adventure, consider visiting the Daisy Airgun Museum to learn about the history of the iconic Daisy brand. It’s a unique Rogers attraction, especially for older kids and adults who enjoy a little local history.
For dinner, switch things up with a visit to Big Orange. This family-friendly restaurant serves burgers, classic comfort food, and milkshakes with ingredients sourced from across the state. I LOVE the Thai Salad with Steak or Chicken – maybe my favorite salad in NWA! It’s located in the Pinnacle Hills area, so plan on a short drive from downtown. Afterwards, do some window shopping at the outdoor mall!
Day 2: E-Bikes + Lake Atalanta
Day two is all about getting outside! Start your morning at the new OZ E-Bikes in downtown Rogers. Renting e-bikes is my favorite way to explore Northwest Arkansas, and you don’t have to be an experienced cyclist to enjoy the ride. The shop offers electric bike rentals, and its Rogers location provides access to nearby trail connections.
Once you’re outfitted and ready to ride, explore the connected trails toward Lake Atalanta. The trail connections give you a chance to see more of Rogers without constantly hopping in the car. Ask the team at OZ E-Bikes for route recommendations based on your group’s abilities and the amount of time you have. We chose to ride THIS route.
Spend the rest of your morning at Lake Atalanta, one of Rogers’ prettiest outdoor destinations. The park features a lake, a 2 mile paved walking trail around the lake, playgrounds, picnic areas, and opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of Northwest Arkansas. It’s a great spot to slow down after your ride, let the kids play, and enjoy some time outside. Pack a picnic or grab lunch nearby before heading back toward town. We love grabbing Gelato at Gelatissimo Downtown Rogers!
For dinner, keep things casual with another downtown favorite like Havana Tropical Grill (cuban food) or Lasang Pinoy (Filipino!) or head toward Pinnacle Hills for more dining options. If your weekend lines up with a performance at the Walmart AMP, check the schedule to see whether there’s a concert or event that works for your family. The outdoor amphitheater is a major Rogers-area entertainment destination, although the best fit will depend on the show and your kids’ ages.
Day 3: One Last Adventure
Spend your final day enjoying one of the area’s biggest outdoor draws: Beaver Lake. Just a short drive from Rogers, this beautiful lake is a favorite for families looking to spend time on the water, enjoy scenic views, or simply get outside together.
Start your morning at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area, located along Beaver Lake. With miles of hiking trails, opportunities to spot wildlife, and beautiful Ozark scenery, it’s a great way to experience the natural side of Northwest Arkansas. Choose a shorter trail that’s appropriate for your kids and bring water and snacks for the adventure. Here are a few options.
If your family would rather spend the morning near the water, look into one of the lake’s public access points, like Prairie Creek Recreation Area. Depending on the season and conditions, you can enjoy lake views, picnic areas, and access to the shoreline. Pack a picnic lunch and take your time soaking up the scenery. If swimming or boating is on your agenda, check current access, water conditions, and seasonal facilities before heading out.
After a morning outside, switch gears and head back to Rogers for an afternoon at Fast Lane Entertainment. This indoor entertainment center offers activities like bowling, arcade games, and other attractions that make it a fun stop for kids and adults alike. There is also mini-golf right next door at Golf Mountain. We also loved our new indoor ropes course, Ozark Adventure Park!
Wrap up your trip with an early dinner nearby, like Artisan Wood Fire Pizza or grab a treat (Handels Ice-Cream!) before heading home. After three days of biking, exploring parks, enjoying local restaurants, and spending time by the lake, you’ll have experienced a little bit of everything Rogers has to offer.
Tips & Tricks
- Reserve your e-bikes ahead of time. Visit OZ E-Bikes to check availability, bike options, and rental rates.
- Bring water and snacks. Between biking, playgrounds, and exploring the lake, you’ll be glad to have them on hand.
- Have a rainy-day backup. Spots like the all-new Dozer NWA, Amazing Land Playground, Ozark Adventure Park, Sky Zone, Fast Lane Entertainment are options to consider when outdoor plans need to change.
- Check seasonal hours. Splash pads, outdoor attractions, and special events may operate on seasonal schedules.
- Leave room for spontaneous stops. Some of the best family memories happen when you give the kids time to play instead of rushing to the next activity.
Whether you’re visiting Northwest Arkansas for the first time or looking for a new way to explore your own backyard, Rogers makes a great family weekend getaway.
